Why do I need to service my air conditioner?

The warm weather is here in Niagara, cross your fingers and start up the A/C?

Many of us take don't give a second thought to our air conditioning system. Every summer we flip the switch on the thermostat and hope for the best.

To extend the life of your air conditioner there are a few things you should know. There are 3 components to your central air conditioning. The unit that sits outside - the 'condenser', a coil, this is built into the duct work near the furnace, and the lineset that connects the two. There is pressurized refrigerant (fluid) inside.

Pressure levels can drop over time causing the unit to work harder than needed. This can be taxing on the system and much less efficient to operate. Other issues can be address that can potentially avoid breakdowns and maintain maximum efficiency.

A Licensed Contractor will clean and inspect both the indoor and outdoor coil, pressurize the system, check all electrical contacts and amp draws. They usually oil/lubricate the motors, check the condensate line, check and replace filters. This is not simply a peace-of-mind service but one that could potentially save you money by avoiding breakdowns and ensuring maximum efficiency of your A/C.
